Ghana has achieved “white list status”. Ghanaian seafarers are well trained and are noted for their hard work and commitment. Both officers and ratings are very social and relate well with other nationalities. The Regional Maritime Academy is responsible for the training of cadets, officers and ratings, from Ghana , Liberia , Sierra Leone , Gambia and Cameroon . Recently Ethiopia , Nigeria , Congo and others have also joined. The Academy is also running mandatory courses for officers and ratings to meet the STCW 1995 IMO Convention.
